Larry Schneider - teacher
Larry Schneider is a great modern tenor player with whom I took at least 4 or 5 lessons in the late 80s. He is a teacher whose lesson material I can say I transcribed fairly completely and studied very carefully. I took his advice seriously and worked on what he taught me over some years (and I keep coming back to it).
Talk about a musician deserving wider recognition. Not that my opinion on this matters much, but I never could understand why Larry wasn't more famous because he's as good as anybody I've ever heard. He taught me comprehensively about chords, scales and patterns and how you play with the sound of them and know them in all twelve keys. I think it was a major turning point for me studying with Larry as my understanding of improvisation and harmony greatly matured under him. Larry is a master musician and saxophone player of the highest order.
