George Brooks

George Brooks is a masterful saxophonist who fuses jazz with Indian music. I took one lesson from him at his home in Berkeley in 2008 the summer before I left the States to move to the UK. I recorded that lesson and am slowly transcribing the material but I have carefully studied certain things he showed me.

George's group "Summit" is an incredible band which includes one of my favorite musicians on the planet, Zakir Hussain. I've seen Zakir many times and I always come away thinking he is surely the best musician in the world on any instrument.

Anyway George Brooks was another one of those musicians with whom I only took one lesson, but he gave me enough material for a lifetime.
