Mark Sowlakis, longtime friend
Mark Sowlakis is another great friend I've known since the late 80s during our days studying music at San Francisco State University. In 1986 I was just a rocker from L.A., pretty ignorant on a lot of subjects, and Mark deserves much credit for teaching me a great deal about music, the saxophone, and jazz and classical music. Perhaps most significantly, he kindly hooked me up with 3 teachers who had a major influence on me, namely Hal Stein, Larry Schneider and especially Joe Henderson. He has made a number of great records, plays professionally and teaches clarinet and saxophone in the S.F. Bay Area. He's another artist deserving wider recognition.
