Quique Cruz

It has been my privilege to work closely with a great Chilean composer/musician named Quique Cruz. Our main work together was in the band Quijeremá for whom I played mainly played alto and soprano saxophones, but also played tenor and baritone on the recordings. I played with Quijeremá for several years and toured in North and South America with them. My saxophone playing can be heard on the CDs "Tinta Verde", "Kakri", "El Viaje", and the film and CD of "Archeology of Memory". I also transcribed many pieces of Quique's music and produced a book of sheet music for the band and helped with the arrangements.

I was very proud to be a part of Quique's magnum opus, which is a piece called Archeology of Memory that includes a musical suite, a book, a documentary film and a multimedia installation. We took this piece to Villa Grimaldi in Santiago and performed it before an audience of several thousand including the president of Chile, Michelle Bachelet. The film has been released and has won various awards at film festivals.

Quique and Maria's latest project is the Q y M ensamble.
