ABOUT THE PROJECT
Dead Man’s Cake is an autobiographical album I wrote to try to make sense of a tragic event that happened in my childhood, the suicide of my mother in 1970.ART AGAINST SUICIDE
“Dead Man’s Cake” is a metaphor for suicide; the title track’s line “Don’t you eat that Dead Man’s Cake” suggests troubled people should choose life instead of suicide.PERFORMANCE
I wrote the words and music, sang and played saxophones on the record.PRODUCTION
The record was co-produced by me and Richard Lobb, and features the Toybox Band, a fantastic team of London session pros.
